Feature: StreetPeek Singapore

Fashion blogs can be undeniably dull on many occasions, it’s been a few years now that fashion blogging and street photography have taken the internet by storm. Due to the sheer amount of all this similar content, it can be easy to lose interest in this type of work.

Street fashion photography highlights the everyday person from around the globe’s influence to trends and what retailers want to sell us. A good photographer can produce fascinating exhibitions of numerous people’s ways of self-expression.

My good friend turned Instagram celebrity John Tan doesn’t have the word mediocre in his vocabulary. He is talented enough to produce instantly iconic photographs of impeccably stylish people he encounters on the streets of Singapore. His work has been featured in various exhibitions and websites including internet giant Buzzfeed.

His blog ‘Streetpeek’ hasn’t been updated in a while partially due to Asian study problems but his Instgram feed is alive and kicking. His work is definitely a cut above the rest and I would really recommend checking it out. While the world may know him as a savvy lens genius, I have a collection of beautiful but perhaps, slightly less glamorous memories with him. *Distressed animal noise*

C: Day n Night

IMG_0032This space has fallen into complete misuse the last couple of weeks. I was so excited about the fact I’d have so much to write about being in another country and all yet unfortunately it seems my life is no more exciting than before, less if anything. That is of course if you think being stuck in an air-conditioned library with isolated desks is exciting. The fact is there is too much studying to be done in Singapore, everyone being ridiculously competitive doesn’t help either.

My final set of mid-terms finished on Wednesday, so I rewarded myself and headed to the beach. It was pretty sweet. Although it’s an artificial cove, you can’t say it’s a bad beach. I got to see a kingfisher grabbing his lunch and a humming bird or two. It’s so surreal that I’m here but I don’t even notice it due to the workload. Hopefully in the second semester now I know how the ball rolls I’ll be able to be more efficient with my time because there really is so much to do here. Should have a few more posts up before final exams and after will be ready to depart for some travelling. Finally!

E: Submerged in a View

IMG_9891Honestly it’s difficult to describe the kind of high being at the marina bay sands infinity pool gives you. The view, so condensed in detail will literally leave you questioning whether your eyes are working at some new resolution. It is a picture which is very difficult to get bored of. Swimming next to this picture adds a whole new level of awe to the experience.

There really is something different about having nothing separating you and a view compared to views witnessed behind a glass pane. It feels so close, like the whole city is exposed for your viewing.

IMG_9930Cliché’s aside being up there really made me think about the future. Is this a glance at the sort of life I’d like to have one day? Who are the guests who can afford to come here on a regular basis? Do I want to be one of them? Surprisingly I came to a conclusion rather quickly. No, not really. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that they’ve all worked really hard to get where they are; to be able afford this life regularly, I just think to myself, isn’t this now, the excitement and rarity of the opportunity so much better?

Some people will want that constant luxury lifestyle and that’s absolutely fine and logical. It’s just simply put, it ‘ain’t my thing’. I will always feel satisfaction and pride of your work to a certain degree will always outweigh the importance of the amount of money you earn. I don’t know how the future will affect my views yet but for now at least this is how I feel.

It’s not easy being out here but I can honestly say I appreciate every perk to the fullest when it comes. Honestly speaking if I could experience all of it, it all of the time I don’t think I would.  So I’ll have a blast while and whenever I can. I feel like I constantly prove it doesn’t have to cost anything if you get a bit of luck and help.

Thank you so much to Alex’s parents for inviting us all up as guests for her birthday. We were spoilt rotten and treated so kindly for people they barely knew!

Instagramming

a489c7ac193211e3b82e22000a9e0697_7Been Instagramming a fair bit the past few weeks. I quite like it as a social network. It’s a nice visual way to keep up to date on what everyone’s up to. I really like my new university room so I’ll work on posting some more pictures when it’s done. Below are some snaps of marina bay, my view and some dull chromatography.

C: We found a Sofa

IMG_0172 A while back me and some flatmates went for a walk, and in the middle of this beautiful rapeseed field we found an abandoned sofa. My camera was at hand so what to do seemed obvious. Made a good profile picture anyway, we think the image above would make a great promotional shot for a sitcom. IMG_0196 IMG_0242 IMG_0235 IMG_0091 IMG_0102 IMG_0121

S: My Sort Of Spring

.51

Any space I’m used to seeing barren with dust and sand in Cyprus is transformed into fields of long grass and flowers. All these shots were from inside Limassol, I didn’t get a chance to go out of the city much but when I drove past the countryside was pretty breathtaking. IMG_9708IMG_9648.4IMG_9679IMG_9311
